As much as we loved Barbara’s hospitality, this weekend we left the hostel and came together with 200 other young people from across the world for the Conference of Youth.
We prepared, practiced, negotiated, decided, acted, networked and generally worked extremely hard to get ready for Monday when the official UNFCCC negotiations begin. The amount of organising was phenomenal – over the next two weeks, there will be over 500 youth at the negotiations, from over 55 countries – quite a job to bring together!
It even seemed like that in a period of 48 hours, we were able to work together in a way that our governments haven’t been able to since they started when I was six years old. It is a slow and laborious process, so to be able to build our media messaging, actions, film work, policy, strategy and everything else in such a short time with people with the same passion and energy was amazing!
I slept little but I feel I have the most energy I’ve ever had. I feel so strongly that this group of intelligent, committed, amazing young people really can shape these next to weeks – I can’t wait!
